Second Street Gallery's Professional Practices for Artists program is an evolving series designed to support artists at every stage of their careers by providing practical tools, professional insight, and opportunities to build confidence navigating the contemporary art world. Through a combination of presentations, discussions, hands-on activities, and conversations with arts professionals, the series addresses the skills and knowledge that are often learned informally through experience.
During Season 53, we are excited to expand and further develop this initiative by offering a growing selection of professional development opportunities for artists throughout the year.
We will kick off the season by re-offering one of our most popular workshops, Finding Your Voice: Artist Statements & Elevator Pitches, giving artists another opportunity to strengthen two of the most essential tools for communicating about their work. Additional sessions covering a range of professional practice topics will be announced throughout the season.
Designed primarily for emerging and mid-career artists—but open to artists at all stages—this program reflects Second Street Gallery's ongoing commitment to artist advocacy, education, and the cultivation of a vibrant local and regional arts community.
By offering these programs at an affordable cost, Second Street Gallery seeks to reduce barriers to professional development, encourage peer learning, and empower artists to better advocate for themselves and their work. Participants may register for individual workshops based on their interests, and a limited number of scholarships will be available for artists with demonstrated financial need.
