Arden Shostak (He/Him) is a weaver, painter, and writer from Virginia. Responding to the extractive legacy of landscape painting, he makes place-based works that leverage the genre towards environmental justice. His perspective is informed by his experiences as a trans person, which help him see a connection between the tenacity of the natural world and the resilience of queer and other marginalized communities. He is passionate about regenerative fiber systems and connecting with his community through the arts. He has been awarded residencies with Wild Altar Farmstead, VisArts, Wildacres, and Tabby Studio. Arden holds a BFA in sculpture with a concentration in literary arts from Rhode Island School of Design and serves as the exhibition and residency coordinator at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond.
