Intro to Printmaking with Abigail Wilson

In January 2022, Second Street Gallery presented a two-part, hands-on introductory printmaking workshop with Inside the Artist’s Studio artist, Abigail Wilson.

Session 1: January 12, 2022 from 6-7:30PM (Image transfer and carving basics)
Session 2: January 19, 2022 from 6-8PM (Printing day!)

This workshop was a short course and took place in two sessions. During Session 1, attendees learned to transfer images to carving blocks and practiced carving techniques to create their block designs. Outside of Session 1, attendees worked on finishing their carvings for our printing day. During Session 2, attendees learned inking and printing skills to realize their designs. This session was messy, but lots of fun!

Attendees had access to all necessary materials at the workshop days and got to take home what they created (along with an opportunity to trade and share prints with other participants)!

Abigail Wilson is an avid creator and symmathecist, driven to illuminate and nurture evolving connections. She received a BFA in Printmaking and Spanish from UNC Chapel Hill, an integration of ideas which catalyzed her quest to explore how society and creation affect one another. Her inspiration finds many forms - from printmaking to furniture building, book binding to software design. Art is one of the main avenues through which Abigail explores the experience of consciousness and the common languages which underlie our systems of existence.
