Creative Self-Portrait Workshop with Lev Keatts

Come join SSG on Wednesday, September 6, 6 - 7:30PM to make creative self-portraits in the style of exhibiting artist Lev Keatts. They create unique self-portraits based on manipulated photos and nuanced painting techniques. The artist will be present to lead the art-making workshop.

In this workshop, we’ll create small portraits based on photos. Participants will then manipulate their photos by deconstructing them and then reconstructing them in unexpected ways. A translucent painting surface will then be provided to paint over the new photo and then mounted to a panel.

Interested participants should bring a 8x8" photo of themselves. A printout is preferred so that it can be cut up and rearranged in the workshop.

Lev Keatts was selected from a competitive pool of artists as Teeny Tiny Trifecta 5's Curator's Choice Exhibition Pick. A recent graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, the artist currently lives and works in Richmond, VA. Workshop attendees will learn about their current exhibition and the inspiration behind some of their art practices.

Learn more about Lev’s exhibition, People in Empty Places, on view in the Dové Gallery September 1 - 29, 2023.

The workshop is available at $10 SSG members / $15 non-members. This fee covers workshop instruction and access to all workshop materials for the activity.

The workshop is limited to 25 attendees and will take place in person at Second Street Gallery.
