THE ARTIST’S PRACTICE:

“With ‘The Great Blue’, [I] delve further into an inquiry of the manifestation of the collective within the individual. Years of immersion in natural settings brought to light the truth of our interdependence; no creature can exist without the full ecosystem which surrounds it - and no ecosystem can exist without the creatures that reside within it. Where does one end and the other begin? Can we truly see an individual without also looking at its context? Printmaking provides a robust ground for this question of polarities, creating a collection of seemingly identical pieces which are each in truth perfectly unique. Within the constraints of process, the block brings forth magic. Within the bounds of a body, all of existence is given form.”

JESÚS PINO AGUILAR

Jesús G. Pino Aguilar started his career in photography as a self-learner, driven by a sincere interest in this art form. He considers himself a life-style portraiture photographer and currently works as a commercial photographer. However, where he experiments with a more artistic side of photography is when he travels. He loves photographing busy cities and capturing chaos of the streets using long and multiple exposures. He worked in several fields that were not specifically related to photography, before taking a job in an art gallery in his home town of Córdoba, Spain. In 2007, he co-founded, directed, and photographed for 16 por 16, an advertising company in Cordoba, Spain. In late 2011, he moved to NYC and worked at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute (NYC) both in their gallery and as an event photographer. In 2013, he moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, where he graduated in 2019 from UVa with a degree in Visual Arts. Since coming to Charlottesville, he had the honor of working with amazing photographers which have taught him a great deal in this art from. He has also had the opportunity to work with several wonderful clients including Second Street Gallery, photographing their openings for the last 6 years.
