Outreach
Artists on Location is a program where exhibiting artists interact with the community. We pair artists to do activities with residents of all ages depending on the interests and expertise of the exhibiting artists. Activities range from workshops in the gallery to school visits to discussions with PVCC students.
Monthly Second Street Critiques offer local artists the opportunity to receive feedback on their work from practicing artists or arts professionals in a FREE, open, and supportive environment.
We also partner with Charlottesville City Schools to offer an after school Art Club led by local artists. Annually, Second Street Gallery will provide 8-12 after school workshops for elementary school students. These workshops encourage students to participate in hands-on art activities, in a variety of media, with a variety of artists, as well as feel included in Charlottesville’s artistic community.
The Second Street Gallery Docent Program provides students and Charlottesville community members with the opportunity to explore art through interactive tours with visitors of all ages. By encouraging close looking and active conversation, Docent Spotlight Tours foster a contemplative and immersive space around the contemporary art objects in the gallery. Connecting with the larger Charlottesville community and beyond, docents will augment a love of art, helping visitors to see the world differently after leaving Second Street.
