As part of Teeny Tiny Trifecta 4, Second Street Gallery is pleased to present a series of art workshops in September 2021, in collaboration with several artists from this year’s exhibition. Read more about the individual workshops below and RSVP by clicking the provided links.

Analog Collage with Mary Lamb: September 21, 2021 from 6-7PM

Second Street Gallery in partnership with Common House is excited to present a hands-on workshop with Teeny Tiny Trifecta 4 artist Mary Lamb.

Analog Collage with Mary Lamb will take place on September 21, 2021 from 6-7PM in Vinegar Hall at Common House. Workshop is available at:  $5 (CH members) / $10 (non-members). 

During this workshop with artist Mary Lamb, participants will learn about the practice of analog collage as it relates to the core themes Lamb explores in her creative work, as well as the importance of analog collage as a practice in storytelling or recontextualizing narratives. Participants will create their own collages during the workshop and will have access to basic materials such as recycled magazines, assortments of paper, scissors, and glue. Participants are encouraged to bring in their own archival or collected materials such as magazines, newspapers, and old photographs to create work with.

The workshop will be offered at a limited capacity of 15 participants.

Introduction to Embroidery with Brielle DuFlon: September 7, 2021 from 6-7:30PM

Second Street Gallery in partnership with Common House is excited to present a hands-on workshop series for the month of September 2021, featuring select local artists from Second Street Gallery’s group exhibition and fundraiser, Teeny Tiny Trifecta 4

Introduction to Embroidery with Brielle DuFlon kicked off the first workshop in this series. This workshop took place on September 7, 2021 from 6-7:30PM in Vinegar Hall (North) at Common House.

During this workshop with artist Brielle DuFlon, participants had the opportunity to learn several basic stitches, which are the core components of embroidery, and took home instructional practice materials to create their own designs to upcycle/mend clothing with their new skills. This workshop included a small materials kit (including needles and thread, embroidery hoops, fabric, and instructional handouts to practice at home) available for attendees in person. 

The workshop was offered at a limited capacity of 15 participants.

Youth Art Workshop with Draw Charlottesville: September 11, 2021 from 10-11:30AM

Second Street Gallery and Draw Charlottesville were excited to present a FREE hands-on youth workshop on September 11, 2021 from 10-11:30AM in the Main Gallery.

During this workshop, participants created a work of art expressing what is important to them about Charlottesville and to help build a collection of community-made art that explores the diverse array of experiences and perspectives in our town. Participants created a basic accordion sketchbook with paper and then used various mediums to explore one of the prompts: “Draw a place in Charlottesville that brings you joy," Draw a place in Charlottesville that represents what Charlottesville means to you," or "Draw a place in Charlottesville that you would reimagine." Younger children used photographs from around Charlottesville to create collages based on these prompts using a variety of materials.

All workshop participants were required to mask and social distance within the gallery. The workshop was offered at a limited capacity of 10 participants. This workshop was ideal for children aged 8-16.

Painting with Earth Pigments with Laura Josephine Snyder: September 14, 2021 from 6-7PM

Second Street Gallery is excited to present a hands-on workshop with Teeny Tiny Trifecta 4 artist Laura Josephine Snyder.

Painting with Earth Pigments with Laura Josephine Snyder took place on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 6-7PM in the Main Gallery at Second Street Gallery. Workshop was available at:  $5 (SSG members) / $10 (non-members).

During this workshop with Laura Josephine Snyder, participants learned to mix their own set of watercolor paints using earth pigments and used this new medium to create their own watercolor paintings. Attendees had access to mixing tools, mediums, watercolor paper and brushes when they arrive at the gallery. Participants were also able to use soil and earth pigments provided by our artist, but were welcome to bring in their own collected earth or natural pigments from their gardens.

The workshop was offered at a limited capacity of 15 participants.

Botanical & Stencil Printmaking with Jennifer Billingsly: September 18, 2021 from 10-11:30AM

Second Street Gallery in partnership with Common House is excited to present a hands-on workshop with Teeny Tiny Trifecta 4 artist Jennifer Billingsly.

Botanical & Stencil Printmaking with Jennifer Billingsly took place on September 18, 2021 from 10-11:30AM in Vinegar Hall at Common House. Workshop was available at:  $5 (CH members) / $10 (non-members). 

During this workshop with artist Jennifer Billingsly, participants learned to create botanical and stencil prints using a versatile printmaking technique: gelatin plate printing. Participants used ephemera collected from nature to create their botanical prints. Attendees had access to materials such as ink, brayers, and paper in person to participate in this workshop.
