SSG’s Summer Workshops

Rising 6th grades and up

$250 per student

Session 1: July 29- August 2, 1-4 pm

Paint Like a Pro

Learn to paint with acrylics. Find subjects you like and learn how to recreate them realistically. Explore brush technique, color mixing, and composition in this informative, skill-building class.

Instructor: Lou Haney is an artist, teacher, and mom. She divides her time between PVCC, Second Street Gallery, her studio, and home. In her spare time, she enjoys sitting quietly. See more of her work here.

Session 2: August 5-9, 1-4 pm

Creating Comics

Invent your own cartoon characters and stories as you learn about drawing methods and materials used by professional cartoonists. We’ll also explore the history of the comic form, creating personal characters and exploring the diary comic.

Instructor: A.I. Miller is a comics artist who lives and teaches in Charlottesville VA. He also teaches art and graphics at PVCC and drinks a very large amount of coffee every day. See more of Aaron's work here.
