ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Sharon Shapiro Each week we will be bringing you a closer look at the artists in our Inside the Artist’s Studio exhibition. This week we spoke with Sharon Shapiro about her creative process, her experience with preparing for the exhibition, and of course, her studio. What was the biggest challenge in having someone document your creative process? “When someone photographs you in your studio it can feel staged. Art is such a solo activity for me that it can feel strange to let someone into that space without feeling like you’re acting. Stacey Evans took another approach in which I became part of the art- she focused more on the elements in my studio rather than trying to take a traditional portrait of me, which is what makes her photographs so strong. 2. In a few words, how would you describe your studio space? “Historic, unique, comfortable- my studio used to be an old post office-it hasn’t been used that way since 1908” We will be posting more of Russ’s responses throughout the week, so stay tuned for more! ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Russ Warren Each week we will be bringing you a closer look at the artists in our Inside the Artist’s Studio exhibition, asking them all about their creative process, their experience with preparing for the exhibition, and of course, their studio. In our final installment, we asked Russ how his work changes from the studio to the gallery space. “It’s night and day- seeing my pieces leave the studio where I understand them to a world where most people don’t”. Russ described the experience of seeing a room full of strangers staring at and analyzing his work is often an uncomfortable one. Thank you Russ Warren for sharing your insight with us. Keep updated to hear more from our other Inside the Artist’s Studio artists!

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Russ Warren Each week we will be bringing you a closer look at the artists in our Inside the Artist’s Studio exhibition, asking them all about their creative process, their experience with preparing for the exhibition, and of course, their studio. How would you describe your creative process? “I have been an artist since I left home at a very young age- extremely young. Creativity is one of life’s constants”. He went on to describe how everything he does is tied to his creative process, although, he adds that sometimes he wishes there was some separation. What is your most important tool/something you could not live without in your studio? “Artificial light” Russ says. “All that nonsense about “natural light” is a hoax. All it makes for a is shorter work day”. Plus, Russ adds, the sometimes deficient light forces him to work a little harder to get the colors right, or in his words, “being hooked on perfect pays off.” Part 3 of our interview with Russ will be posted later on his week, so stay tuned!
