Second Street Gallery added 10 new photos — with Barbara Brown Wilson.

SSG Outreach Exhibition Artist Spotlight: Ninni Baeckstorm Second Street’s Outreach Exhibition is now on display, running until Saturday, September 23. The work on view is a collection of artwork created by students during our 2016-2017 season, in which we worked with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, Community Housing Partners, and Charlottesville Public Schools. You can catch the full exhibition before it’s gone by coming out to Family Art Day this Saturday, from 10-1. Ninni Baeckstrom is a mixed media sculpture artist, raised in Stockholm, Sweden. After moving to Charlottesville, she began to study sculpture at the University of Virginia and soon was exhibiting her work. She is a long-term member of the McGuffey Art Center, and her works can be found in both public spaces and private residences across the country. Ninni worked with students in the afterschool program at the Greenstone Community Building. Students created mirror mosaics, having the freedom both to plan out their own designs, as well as safely cut glass on their own. They also learned how to apply grout on glass, and were excited when they finally were able to reveal the mosaic designs that were hidden underneath. You can see the works of Ninni’s students, as well as other artists and their students, at the gallery now until Saturday. We hope to see you!

Second Street Gallery is excited to make its debut at this year’s Current Art Fair. The Current Art Fair will be held September 28 - October 1, 2017 at Main Street Station, Richmond, VA. The gallery will be exhibiting work by Stacey Evans, Michael Fitts, Aimee McDavitt, Steve Taylor, Sarah Boyts Yoder, Cate West Zahl. Color your own “love” by downloading the custom coloring page by artist Ryan Trott or pick one up at the gallery. http://www.secondstreetgallery.org/images/uploads/family_art_day_coloring_page_ssg17.pdf Completed pages will be displayed in the gallery and give you an entry into a raffle for prizes (courtesy of the Art Box). The raffle will take place at noon and you must be present to win.
