Second Street Gallery added 2 new photos.
Hi art lovers! We wanted to remind you of our current exhibition featuring Erik Benson and Melissa Cooke Benson. If you haven’t gotten a chance to see the show, we highly recommend coming out to the gallery to catch it before its gone! Both Erik and Melissa utilize unique techniques in their artistic practices. Erik pours paint onto glass sheets before cutting out shapes and reapplying them to canvas to create his compositions. In contrast, Melissa creates her hyper-realistic and softly modeled works by applying graphite with a paintbrush onto paper. Despite their differences, these two artists compliment each other in distinct ways. It is worth coming out to see- even on a rainy day like today!

My favorite work in Melissa Cooke Benson’s show Mom Brain is “Fringe”. I love the hyper-realist attention to detail to each strand of hair, and the fact that she does not shy away from the physical effects of motherhood that people often don’t talk about, like hair loss. I love what she says about her work, that it is about “making artwork that’s not the ideal image of parenthood but those realistic things that only your girlfriends tell you about being a mom”. We’re so lucky to have her works on view in our gallery. Stop in before May 11 to see them in person!
