Artists in Conversation: Leigh Suggs + Hillary Waters Fayle

Join artists and longtime friends Leigh Suggs and Hillary Waters Fayle for a conversation on Suggs' solo exhibition at Second Street Gallery, "Hurry Slowly". Attendees will have the opportunity to ask the artists questions at the end of the session.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:⁠

Leigh Suggs lives and works in Richmond, VA. She received her BFA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. Suggs has exhibited widely in Virginia, North Carolina, New York, and across the country. She has been awarded several grants and honors including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship Award, the North Carolina Fellowship Award, two City of Richmond CultureWorks grants, and a residency at the Quirk Hotel & Gallery in Richmond, VA. Her intricate, handcut works on paper explore the "in-between" spaces during the act of seeing.⁠

Hillary Waters Fayle lives and works in Richmond, VA. She received her BFA from Buffalo State College and her MFA in Craft/Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Fiber Area in the department of Craft/Materials Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her work has been widely exhibited and is included in the permanent collections of the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo, NY, the Kalmthout Arboretum & Botanical Gardens in Belgium and several corporate collections. A public installation in collaboration with the AK Museum can be seen year round in Buffalo, NY. She studies textile and printmaking traditions and processes, using them in collaboration with found botanical and organic material to symbolically bind nature and the human touch.⁠
