Warren Craghead joins Second Street Gallery as new Executive Director
POSTED ON 9.1.2015
Second Street Gallery is pleased to announce that Warren Craghead is joining the gallery as its new Executive Director. Craghead joins the gallery September 14.
"I've been a part of Second Street Gallery since moving to Charlottesville twelve years ago. As an audience member, a showing artist, a curator and a board member I've long admired how Second Street Gallery brings the best of contemporary art from around the world to Charlottesville, and through its outreach programs, brings art and artists into the community. I'm excited to join a great staff and dedicated Board of Directors in working to further this important mission," says Craghead.
Prior to joining Second Street Gallery, Craghead had a long career as an artist, designer, publisher and creative director, showing and publishing his work internationally. A three-time Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellow, he has curated locally at The Bridge PAI and Second Street Gallery. He also has extensive communications, design and creative direction experience, most recently at the University of Virginia School of Law and was a co-founder of the New York Capital Region’s non-profit arts and culture magazine “Salvage.” Craghead has a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University, an MFA in Painting from the University of Texas at Austin and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.
"We are delighted that Warren has accepted our offer to lead Second Street Gallery, one of our nation’s oldest contemporary nonprofit spaces and a jewel in our region and community. His reputation as a celebrated exhibiting artist is second only to his love for our local art scene. His passion for collaboration and his fresh, new vision will ensure that Second Street Gallery continues to expand its reach in the years to come, and offers a compelling voice for contemporary art and artists for all to enjoy," wrote Second Street Gallery Board of Directors Co-Presidents Charlotte Dammann and Claire Thompson.
