Second Street Gallery announces its February 2014 exhibition, THREESOME by three Virginia-based women artists: Susan Jamison, Tif Robinette, and Sharon Shapiro.

This group exhibition presents works by three Virginia-based women artists whose works provocatively explore ‘femininity’ on the surface and subcutaneously. Each artist, in her own way, considers themes such as fantasy, fragility, lust, violence, voyeurism and transformation. The show includes a range of media from painting and drawing to sculpture and performance.

Susan Jamison is a visual artist who paints in egg tempera and creates sculptural forms and installations that focus on feminine subject matter. Jamison holds an MFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, where she received the Award of Excellence. She completed her undergraduate studies at James Madison University.

Tif Robinette is an emerging artist who has shown in over twenty group, dual, and solo exhibitions within the past four years. Her work and performances have been shown internationally. She completed her undergraduate work at Hollins University in Psychology and Studio Art.

Sharon Shapiro lives and works near Charlottesville, VA. She has exhibited widely in the US and has work in numerous collections. Sharon studied at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, and holds a BFA from Atlanta College of Art, Atlanta, GA.

The ‘Threesome’ exhibition is sponsored by ‘Women for Art,’ a group of women who share a passion for contemporary art and regularly support Second Street Gallery’s exhibitions, events, and outreach activities.

There will be an opening reception for First Fridays on February 7, from 5:30-7:30pm, with talks by the artists at 6:30pm. There will also be a live performance piece in and around the gallery – please check the gallery’s website for times and locations. Second Street Gallery is located at 115 Second Street SE, Charlottesville, VA.
