Brown & Scofield

September 4, 2009 – September 26, 2009

This pair of artists, also known as Survival Design, made a name for themselves creating “interventionist social art” in the form of nomadic sculptures and lightweight tensile structures.

Having designed installations for the Walker Art Center and the North Carolina Arboretum among others, the duo now turns its attention to Southern Appalachia, and to Second Street Gallery. They will be designing a site-specific installation at SSG addressing energy use and its impact on rural ecology and culture, with a focus on Mountaintop Removal Mining.
