Avery Lawrence is from Charlottesville, Virginia, home of The Downtown Mall and Spudnuts and Sally Hemings and Mr. Jefferson and The University and Garrett Square and Friendship Court and Farmington and Massive Resistance and The Garage and Bodos and DMB and Coran Capshaw and Caspari and Red Bricks and Mel’s and The Corner and the Black Knights and ACAC and Belmont and Hogwaller and the Midtown Business District and The IX Art Park and CLAW and Foxfield and the Turkey Bowl and Second Street Gallery and Shady McGrady.

He studied art and played soccer in Charlottesville public schools, and participated in the Virginia Governor’s School art programs. In 2008, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Visual Studies, and is now pursuing an MFA at the California Institute of the Arts. Avery will marry Emily Corazon Nelson in October.
